One of the aims of the Motorcycling Matters forum is to ensure that the highway authorities can hear the views and opinions of motorcyclists when designing safety improvements to roads where motorcycle casualties have happened.
The local highways authorities in Bedfordshire are committed to improve road safety on all roads for all road users; however motorcyclists have been identified as a target group for road safety initiatives through the Bedfordshire and Luton Casualty Reduction Partnership's Action Plan 2008/9
Feedback on routes identified for improvements has beeen sought by Bedfordshire Highways over the last few years to help inform safety improvements. These have included:
A603 and B1042 Bedford to Cambridgeshire

Update from Road Safety Engineer:
In addition to cyclic maintenance work (surfacing dressing, white lining etc) on this route we have also trialled a new (for Bedfordshire) type of road studs. These Armourstud road studs are constructed of solid glass and are countersunk into the road surface resulting in a more robust adhesion between road stud and carriageway thereby offering reliable delineation and lower maintenance costs.
A number of temporary road safety signs directed at car drivers and riders have been placed along this route.

Update from Road Safety Engineer:
A number of maintenance schemes have been enhanced through the feed back received from the ride out; these include the surface dressing works on the Barton Bypass and roundabout north. As a direct result of the feed back received we are undertaking a comprehensive cut back of all foliage obscuring road signs on this route.
