Campaign launched to repair dangerous potholes in Bedfordshire

‘Wotholes?’ - a campaign to repair dangerous potholes in Bedfordshire is being launched today, as part of Bedfordshire County Council’s commitment to maintain all roads and highways to the highest standard.

£400,000 of funding has been allocated to help restore Bedfordshire’s roads, starting from this week.

An effect called ‘freeze-thaw-cycle’ has caused pot holes to expand, and in areas of weakness in the roads, has resulted in new potholes. This is also happening in other counties where bad weather has hit.

The Bedfordshire Highways team has already started to repair the most dangerous and severe potholes as a top priority and are working their way around the county.

Councillor Tom Wootton, Bedfordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "Maintaining Bedfordshire’s highways is one of our top priorities and we are determined to repair as many potholes as possible before we hand over to the new unitaries on 31 March. Our Highways team will be working as hard as they can to ensure this is done.

"We need your help too – if you do see any large potholes, then please call our 'Wotholes Hotline' on 01234 228661."
