Motorcyclist fatality

Bedfordshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a motorcyclist died after colliding with a tree on Saturday.

The crash happened 230 metres north east of The Crescent Stanford in Southill. The body of the motorcylist – who has been named as John Joseph McNally – was found by a passing motorists at around 9am in Saturday (June 20), however paramedics who were called to the scene believe he could have been there for eight to 10 hours before being found.

Mr McNally, aged 44 (born 05.05.1965), of Sunnyside Road, Hitchin, was negotiating a sweeping right hand bend when he left the road and collided with a small tree. His Honda VTR 1000 bike continued into a field.

Pc Dave Clarke, from Bedfordshire Police’s Collision Investigation Unit, is keen to speak to anyone who may have seen John McNally prior to the crash, in order to establish what time it may have happened.

He said: “While Mr McNally was found just after 9am it is clear the collision occurred some eight to 10 hours before, so anyone who knew John or recalls seeing him on his bike on Friday night or early hours of Saturday morning, is urged to contact the police. His mother was the last person to see him when he left home so we hope that someone else may have come into contact with him after that and can help us piece together what happened.”
