Guilty Plea For Causing Death Of Motorcyclist


A 22-year-old man has now pleaded guilty to causing the death of an Italian motor cyclist in Biggleswade by careless driving.

Jack Gabbitas, of Winston Crescent, Biggleswade, pleaded guilty at Luton Crown Court on Monday 18 January, having previously denied the offence. His trial had been due to start this week.

The victim Luca Benevento was 24 and living in Hitchin Street, Baldock, while he was working in this country. He was riding his Honda Hornet motor cycle along London Road, on 13 September 2008, when he was struck by an Astra car driven by Gabbitas, at the junction with Chambers Way in the early evening.

Gabbitas was granted bail while a pre sentence report is prepared and is due to be sentenced on 9 February this year.
