Motorcyclist in fatal collision in Biggleswade

A young motorcyclist from Baldock died following a road traffic collision last Saturday evening.

Luca Benevento, aged 24, was riding a black Honda Hornet motorcycle on London Road, Biggleswade when he was involved in a collision with a red Vauxhall Astra which was pulling out of the junction of Chambers Way at 7.11pm.

Benevento died of multiple injuries after being admitted to Lister Hospital. The driver of the Astra, a 21 year-old man from Biggleswade, did not require hospital treatment but his 15-year old female passenger was treated for a broken hand.

Benevento was an Italian national living in Hitchin St, Baldock. He had been living in this country for several years, having been transferred here for his job. His parents, brother and girlfriend all live in Italy.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned to a date to be arranged.

Bedfordshire Police are appealing to people who witnessed the collision - or the vehicles immediately before the collision - to contact the PC Debbie James in the Collision Investigation Unit on 01234 842459. The Honda Hornet had an Italian number plate, which people may have noticed.
