BikeSafe Back for 2023

Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire Police bring back popular BikeSafe courses for 2023

The popular BikeSafe courses will be returning this year, aimed at keeping bikers safe on the roads of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

Officers from the BCH Road Policing Unit will be running the national police-led motorcycle initiative from April 2023 in Bedfordshire. They will work alongside riders in a relaxed environment to raise awareness of the importance and value of progressing on to accredited post-test training.

The workshops take place over two days, with delivery of a theory input from an experienced police motorcyclist taking place on the first day, and an observed ride with an advanced motorcyclist on the second day.

With some local variation, BikeSafe workshops aim to cover:

• Rider attitude to risk

• Systematic methods

• Collision causation

• Cornering

• Road positioning

• Overtaking

• Observation

• Braking

• Hazard perception and management

• Use of gears.

Sergeant Russell Jones, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Motorcyclists are one of the most vulnerable road users which is why hosting BikeSafe workshops is so important. Even for the most experienced of riders, these courses are a great way to refresh your skills and learn how to avoid dangers on the roads, in a relaxed environment.

“We want to reduce motorcycle casualties, and we hope that the increased hazard awareness and skills that the riders will learn from BikeSafe will have a positive impact on reducing the number of bikers injured on our roads.”

Courses are available in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, so riders should be able to find local theory workshops and observed rides with availability.
