Why was the route being assessed?
In 2002 a number of safety measures were introduced along the B660 to reduce the number of reported injury accidents involving all road users. These measures included the introduction of reduced speed limits through the residential settlements / villages, improved warning signs and road markings. These measures were completed during 2002. We consider 2003 to be a “bedding in period” allowing road users to become accustomed to the new limits we have looked at accident figures pre installation (1999-2001) and post installation (2004-2006).
The total recorded injury figures for the pre and post installation periods are presented below:

Recently there have been a number of further speed limit amendments as a result of the national Speed Limit Review; introducing 40mph transition limits between National Speed Limits and Restricted (30mph) limits on approaches to a number of settlements.
