Are you thinking of learning to ride a motorcycle, moped or scooter? Now you can start learning the basics before you even sign up for your Compulsory Basic Training.

1^st Ride is new course for aspiring riders living in Bedfordshire. Developed and delivered by local motorcycle instructors, road safety officers and officers from the emergency services, 1^st Ride aims to give new riders the best start in motorcycle training.

What’s Involved?
1^st Ride is a one-day course in which you will gain an introduction to riding which will help to prepare you to get the most out of your CBT. The course includes theory and practical sessions:

Welcome to the machine - introduction to motorcycle controls
Equipment and clothing
Attitude and behaviour
Rules of the road
1^st Ride – moving off, accelerating, steering, braking and stopping
First Aid / First on the Scene

By the end of the day you will have had plenty of time to start riding a moped or scooter in a safe, off-road environment with no traffic and no pressure!
Motorcycles, jackets, gloves and helmets will be provided. Please wear appropriate trousers and footwear – jeans and boots with ankle protection are ideal.

Refreshments and a buffet lunch will be provided. Courses run from 9am til 4pm and will be held in Luton, Bedford and Shefford.

Who is 1^st Ride for?
1^st Ride is for anyone aged 15 or more who is thinking about learning to ride a motorcycle, moped or scooter and is planning to take their Compulsory Basic Training in the near future.

What does it cost?
1^st Ride courses are free for people who live in Bedfordshire, subject to availability. All we ask is that you contribute to our research which will involve completing a questionnaire about your attitudes towards riding and risk in general.

How do I book?
First, please register your interest in doing a 1^st Ride course. Spaces are limited so we cannot guarantee availability. We will contact you with dates and venues of 1^st Ride courses and how to book.
